About- Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India invites applications from Indian Nationals to join the following contractual positions under the NERBPMC program being implemented at New Delhi, India.
Research Job/Area- Genomics-based Wastewater Surveillance, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Emerging Pathogen Detection.
Location- Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, India
Eligibility/Qualification–
1. Project Scientist-II (Wet Lab)
- Essential: Ph.D. in Science OR Master’s in Engineering/Technology with minimum 60% marks.
- Experience: 3 years in R&D in academic/industrial institutions.
- Desired:
- Expertise in microbial isolation, PCR/qPCR/dPCR, cloning, electrophoresis, nucleic acid isolation, and NGS library prep.
- Strong managerial and coordination skills.
2. Project Associate-II (Wet Lab)
- Essential: Master’s in Natural/Agricultural Sciences/MVSc OR Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology/Medicine with minimum 55% marks.
- Experience: 2 years in R&D or equivalent.
- Desired:
- Experience in microbial isolation, PCR/qPCR/dPCR, electrophoresis, and NGS library prep.
- Preference for candidates qualified in NET/GATE/GPAT.
3. Project Associate-II (Bioinformatics)
- Essential: Master’s in Natural/Agricultural Sciences/MVSc OR Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology/Medicine with minimum 55% marks.
- Experience: 2 years in R&D or equivalent.
- Desired:
- Experience in NGS data analysis (Exome, WGS, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq).
- Programming skills in R-Bioconductor and Python.
- Submission of a one-page write-up on bioinformatics experience and publications.
- Preference for candidates qualified in NET/GATE/GPAT.
4. Laboratory Technician
- Essential: B.Sc. OR 3-year diploma in Engineering/Technology.
- Desired:
- Biological sample handling and laboratory management skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft tools.
Job/Position Description-
Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for multiple project-based positions under the project titled “Expansion of INSACOG Wastewater Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, Emerging Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance through Genomic-based methods.”
The project is funded by BIRAC (Grant Ref No: GCI-13012 t2t202S-GCt) and will run for 18 months under the supervision of Dr. P. Prasad, Scientist-F.
These are purely temporary positions and will be co-terminus with the project.

Project Scientist-II
- Coordinate and conduct sample collection and experiments.
- Maintain systematic data repository.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Collaborate with other participating institutions.
Project Associate-II (Wet Lab)
- Handle sewage sample processing and nucleic acid extraction.
- Perform RT-qPCRs and NGS library preparation.
Project Associate-II (Bioinformatics)
- Perform bioinformatics analysis of NGS datasets.
- Manage data processing pipelines and interpret genomic results.
Laboratory Technician
- Collect wastewater, soil, and environmental samples from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
- Manage laboratory supplies, vendor communication, and documentation.
