Designation/Position- Research Associate at IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay, Maharashtra, India invites applications for Research Associate at IIT Bombay from eligible and interested candidates
About- Established in 1958, the second of its kind, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance. The funds from UNESCO came as Roubles from the then-Soviet Union. In 1961 Parliament decreed the IITs as ‘Institutes of National Importance’. Since then, IITB has grown from strength to strength to emerge as one of the top technical universities in the world.

Eligibility/Qualification–
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
PhD degree in Computational Condensed Matter Physics or Materials Science. Candidate should have at least two papers published in SCI journal during PhD.
The candiate must have a background in density functional theory (DFT).
Job Profile:
The selected candidate will work on a research project in condensed matter theory, with a focus on the anomalous Hall effect at interfaces and heterostructures. The project is in collaboration with an experimental group. The role will involve both analytical and computational modeling, including simulations based on density functional theory (DFT), as well as data analysis, literature review, and regular discussions with the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Sayantika Bhowal, and experimental collaborators.
Job/Position Description-
Job Title: Research Associate I
Job Reference Number 50909375
Application End Date: 03.06.2026
Type of Employment: Proj. Staff Contract
No. of Position(s): 1
Project title: Emergent Anomalous Transport at Engineered Interfaces
About the project: In this project, we aim to explore ways to manipulate and engineer the anomalous Hall effect at interfaces grown by our experimental collaborators. Our research will involve both model-based calculations and advanced simulations using density functional theory. Density functional theory studies will help us connect theory to real materials and identify methods for controlling the anomalous Hall effect, which may later be tested experimentally.
We have an opening for a Research Associate I position in the Quantum Material Modeling group (you can visit our group page at this link to learn more about our current research activities) at IIT Bombay to pursue research on “Emergent Anomalous Transport at Engineered Interfaces,” funded by ANRF ARG.
Pay Details: Consolidated salary Rs.58000.00/- p.m. + HRA (as applicable)
How to Apply-
- Applicants possessing the requisite qualification(s) and relevant experience may apply online at https://rnd.iitb.ac.in/jobs link.
- The soft copy of the application/resume sent over e-mail to any Institute Officials will not be considered for the selection process.
