Two Postdoctoral Positions – Nobori Lab: Join the Nobori Lab at The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich, and contribute to groundbreaking research in the field of plant-microbe interactions. We are offering two postdoctoral positions to individuals who are passionate about advancing our understanding of the intricate relationships between plants and microbes. As part of our innovative and collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to apply cutting-edge technologies and develop methodologies to explore plant and microbial interactions at the single-cell level in their native tissue contexts. This research aims to uncover unique cell populations, investigate their functions, and decipher their regulatory mechanisms, ultimately leading to the precise engineering of these cells for manipulating plant-microbe interactions under varying environmental conditions.

Research Area: Single-cell and Spatial Dissection of Plant-Microbe Interactions

Location: The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Essential: PhD degree in a relevant field, or working towards one.
  • Skills:
    • Essential:
      • Extensive proficiency in various molecular biology and/or genomics techniques.
      • Exceptional ability to learn new techniques and concepts swiftly.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork.
      • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
      • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
      • Robust time management and organizational skills.
      • Innovative thinking with the ability to develop novel ideas.
      • Capability to work independently and see individual projects through to completion.
    • Desirable:
      • Proficiency in computational biology, particularly with tools like R and Python.
      • Advanced skills in microscopy.
  • Experience:
    • Essential (at least one of the following):
      • Experience in research related to host-microbe interactions or microbial ecology.
      • Experience with large-scale omics data analysis (bulk, single-cell, spatial).
      • Experience with technology development in the areas of genomics and genome editing.
    • Desirable (at least one of the following):
      • Experience with the analysis of cis-regulatory elements and transcriptional regulation.
      • Experience with the analysis of natural variation.

Job Description: As a postdoctoral researcher in the Nobori Lab, you will be at the forefront of advancing our understanding of plant-microbe interactions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and applying cutting-edge technologies for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics.
  • Analyzing plant and microbial cells at the single-cell level in native tissue contexts.
  • Identifying unique cell populations and exploring their functions and regulatory mechanisms.
  • Collaborating with a diverse, international, and multidisciplinary team.
  • Contributing to project design, execution, and scientific presentations.
  • Mentoring and career development opportunities, including project design, networking, and teaching.
