Research Area

Computational molecular programming focusing on DNA/RNA nanotechnology, artificial molecular networks, and DNA data storage.

  • DNA Nanotechnology & Molecular Programming: Designing and simulating self-assembling DNA nanostructures and molecular machines.
  • Molecular Networks: Turning artificial molecular networks into images to reconstruct tissue layouts from sequencing data.
  • DNA Data Storage: Encoding, storing, retrieving, and error-correcting digital information in DNA molecules.

Job Description

As a postdoc in the Högberg lab, you will have the freedom to be ambitious and shape your own research direction. Depending on your specific interests, you will develop algorithms, models, and software to address major challenges in molecular programming. You will work within a collaborative, world-class research environment with ample funding (including an ERC Advanced Grant) and access to cutting-edge infrastructure for sequencing, imaging, and computation.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Required: A doctoral degree (PhD) or a foreign degree deemed equivalent. You may apply if your dissertation defense is planned in the near future, but the requirement must be fulfilled by the time of the employment decision.
  • Experience: Ideally, you completed your PhD within the last three years (exceptions can be made for special reasons).
  • Core Skills: You must think computationally and enjoy building algorithms, simulations, or software to solve scientific problems. You should be comfortable bridging different fields (e.g., biology, physics, mathematics) and eager to learn new disciplines.
  • Desirable (but not required):
    • Strong programming skills (Python, Julia, C++, R).
    • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, geometry/graph algorithms, statistical inference, or machine learning.
    • Knowledge of error-correcting codes, information theory, or molecular modeling.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the Varbi recruitment system via the original Karolinska Institutet Job Portal.

Your application must include the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. Personal Letter (PDF, max 1 page): Must include contact details and a brief relationship explanation for at least two professional references. Optional but encouraged: Add a few sentences about a problem you would love to solve or an idea you wish to pursue.
  2. CV (PDF): Must include your defense date, thesis title, previous positions, education, distinctions, a complete publication list, and a summary of your current/previous work (max 1 page).

Note: Continuous evaluation is active for this position, so early applications are highly encouraged ahead of the final September 6, 2026 deadline.
