The project entitled ‘Computational Synthetic Biology for the bioproduction of high value molecules in microbial communities’ aims to design, understand and create artificial microbial communities with enhanced capacities for bioproduction and biotechnology. The project will combine the creation of novel computational modelling tools with the use of existing methodologies to explore the generation of emergent behaviours at population.

Eligibility/Qualification–
- The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, dynamic, and excited about synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and microbial biotechnology.
- He/She will have expertise in some of the following fields: dynamical biosystems computational modeling, analysis, and control, computational synthetic biology, emergent behaviors in (synthetic) communities, multi-agent systems, in-silico metabolic engineering or microbial biotechnology, genome-scales metabolic models or bioinformatics.
- The position requires a strong commitment to high research quality, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work diligently and cooperatively with others.
- Successful applicants will be able to work independently and display the intellectual curiosity required to effectively lead multidisciplinary projects.
Job/Position Description-
- Position type – Full time, fixed term
- Salary – £40,215 – £47,579 plus benefits
- Department– Department of Bioengineering
- The project has a duration of 24 months.
Duties and responsibilities
- You will work in the group of Prof Guy-Bart Stan and closely with other research staff, students and collaborators on the project.
- In addition, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other well-known scientists at Imperial College, as well as other international academics and companies.
- You will take initiative in planning the research, will develop computational modelling methods and tools to help predict the dynamic behaviour and aid the (re-)design and optimisation of synthetic microbial consortia, analyse and interpret the simulation results, and collaborate with an experimental PostDoc associated to the project.
- You will have the opportunity to present the results at international conferences and to write research and review articles in the appropriate journals.
- You will help in the supervision of PhD, Master and Undergraduate students, collaborating with their supervisors and teams.
- You will work in a friendly, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with high training and career development opportunities.
