About- The Government of India, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), has set up Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, Uttar Pradesh on the lines of IITs under the Act of Parliament 54/2007 with an empowerment to award degrees and conduct front-end research. Institue has been granted status of “An Institution of National Importance” by the Parliament. The Institue is promoted by six leading Oil PSUs (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in India, in association with Oil Industrial Development Board (OIDB) and positioned as a “World Class” Institution.
Research/Job Area-
The institute is looking for faculty to teach and pursue research in the broader domain areas of Petroleum and Energy across the following specific departments:
- Petroleum Engineering & Geoengineering
- Chemical & Biochemical Engineering

- Energy and Human Sciences

Location- Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), RGIPT Sivasagar Campus
Positions are available at the Jais Campus (Uttar Pradesh) and the Bengaluru Campus. Please note that selected faculty members may be subject to transfer between the different RGIPT campuses depending on institutional requirements.
Eligibility/Qualification–
The minimum foundational qualification for all faculty positions is a PhD with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, maintaining a very good academic record throughout.
- Professor: Requires a minimum of 10 years of teaching, research, or industrial experience. At least 4 of these years must have been served at the level of Associate Professor.
- Associate Professor: Requires a minimum of 6 years of teaching, research, or industrial experience. At least 3 of these years must have been served at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent.
- Assistant Professor (Grade-I): Requires 3 or more years of teaching, research, or industrial experience. Note: Experience gained during the pursuit of a PhD is excluded.
- Assistant Professor (Grade-II): Designed for fresh PhD holders, this position is offered on a contract basis for the first three years.
- Age Limit: The upper age limit for the Assistant Professor role is 35 years (calculated as of May 1, 2026, for Cycle I, and November 1, 2026, for Cycle II). Age relaxation is applicable for exceptional cases and reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) as per Government of India guidelines.

- Undergo necessary training at operating oil production units (onshore and offshore) and refineries across all disciplines.
- Participate in national and international academic conferences.
Compensation and Pay Levels Table The institute offers competitive compensation based on the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC), along with standard allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA) and Transport Allowance. Additional benefits include campus accommodation (or HRA), LTC, medical reimbursement, children’s education allowance, and a cumulative professional development grant (CPDA).
