PhD-Student in Biology: The Department of Aquatic Resources invites applications for a Ph.D. position in Biology with a specialization in Ecology. The project focuses on developing marine protected area networks to sustain biodiversity under climate change, offering a collaborative and inspiring environment for research.
Summary Table:
Position | Duration | Work Location | Starting Date |
---|---|---|---|
PhD-Student | 4 years | Uppsala | 1 Feb 2024 or as per agreement |
Study Area: The research subject is Biology, with a specific focus on sustaining marine biodiversity under climate change.
Scholarship Description: The Ph.D. project is part of a broader initiative addressing the impact of climate change on marine biodiversity. The focus is on developing models to assess the ecological coherence of the Swedish Baltic Sea MPA network under climate change. The project aims to quantify connectivity, evaluate the effectiveness of the current MPA network, and propose expansions to maximize biodiversity conservation. Results will be communicated to authorities and stakeholders.
Eligibility: We seek a highly motivated individual with a strong analytical profile and good communication skills. A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, ecology, limnology, marine ecology, environmental science, sustainable development, or a related field is required. Proficiency in R (or other programming languages), GIS, and mathematical/statistical modeling is highly meritorious. Additional strengths include demonstrated independent scientific work, experience in research groups, and knowledge of marine protected areas, nature conservation analyses, the Baltic Sea, or other aquatic environments. Strong written and spoken English proficiency is required.
