Designation/Position- Post-doctoral position 2019 in Spain
ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Barcelona, Spain invites application for Post-doctoral position 2019 in Spain from eligible and interested candidates
About- ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position in experimental AMO physics to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment. Post-doctoral position 2019 in Spain
Research/Job Area- Condensed-Matter Physics, Quantum Chemistry, Materials Science, or Atomic Collisions
Location- ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Barcelona, Spain
Eligibility/Qualification–
Candidates must hold an internationally recognized PhD degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) based on theoretical work, preferably in the areas of Condensed-Matter Physics, Quantum Chemistry, Materials Science, or Atomic Collisions.
Experience in the fields of Plasmonics, Electron Microscopy, Surface Science, and/or Atomic Collisions will be valued, although it is not a prerequisite for this position.
Research group seek a highly-motivated candidate with theoretical experience in first principles simulations of molecular systems and nanomaterials.
The candidate should have a proven track record in the computational study of the structural and optical properties of different materials and/or molecular systems using ab initio methods.
The use of different calculation schemes (DFT and post-DFT for structural simulations, and TDDFT and Bethe-Salpeter for the optical response) will be highly valued.
The candidate should be familiarized with state-of-the-art techniques and codes in order to carry out such calculations for selected solid surfaces, nanowires, and molecular systems, as well as combinations of these elements.
The work carried out by the candidate will be part of a high-impact research project to incorporate detailed atomic insight into the optical response of different nanomaterials, as well as their interactions with free electron beams. Further details of the project will be discussed during an interview.
Job/Position Description- The successful candidate will be joining the Ultracold Quantum Gases group, led by Prof. Dr. Leticia Tarruell.
The research will focus on two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with tunable interactions. When these interactions compete such that the total mean-field energy practically cancels out, beyond mean-field effects dominate the behaviour of the system. We recently demonstrated the formation of self-bound liquid droplets stabilized by quantum fluctuations in this setting [Cabrera et al. Science 2018, Cheiney et al., PRL 2018], and plan to pursue this research direction in lower dimensions. We are also interested in exploring the combination of tunable interactions and a coherent coupling between the two components to generate density-dependent gauge fields.
The contract is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of up to 3 years.
How to Apply- The formal application should be submitted online via jobs.icfo.eu
Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
- Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
- Curriculum Vitae, including contact details,
- The contact e-mail of two potential referees.
For Contact- Candidates may contact jobs@icfo.eu for informal enquiries regarding the application, as well as address scientific enquiries to javier.garciadeabajo@nanophotonics.es
