Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India) invites applications for Scientist ‘C’ (Direct Recruitment) from eligible and interested candidates

About- The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, is inviting applications from Indian citizens for the permanent post of Scientist ‘C’. The role involves planning, implementation, and monitoring of research and innovation programs, regulatory appraisal, and institutional management in alignment with national bioeconomy priorities.

Research/Job Area-

The incumbent will handle R&D programs and initiatives across the following sectors:

Agriculture & Plant Biology
Medical & Animal Biotechnology
Biomanufacturing & Industrial Processes
Environmental Biotechnology
Bioinformatics & Data Science
Biochemistry & Microbiology

Location- Headquarters: New Delhi (Block-2, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003). Note: Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India or abroad as required by the Department.

Eligibility/Qualification–

1. Nationality: Must be a citizen of India.

2. Age Limit:

Maximum: 35 years (as of the closing date of application).
Relaxation:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Govt. Servants: Up to 5 years

3. Essential Educational Qualifications:

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in:
- Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Computational Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or related disciplines.
- OR Engineering/Technology (Chemical, Biomedical, Biotechnology, Biopharma).
OR Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in any branch of medicine from a recognized University/Institute.

4. Experience: No minimum experience required.

The Scientist ‘C’ will be responsible for:

Program Management: Formulating, appraising, and monitoring R&D programs in agriculture, medical, industrial, and environmental biotechnology.
Strategy & Innovation: Organizing workshops and expert consultations to identify interdisciplinary research initiatives; promoting translational potential and commercialization of funded projects.
Regulatory & IPR: Handling matters related to biosafety assessments, updating protocols, appraising Foreign Direct Investment proposals, and managing IPR issues (patent facilitation).
Institutional Oversight: Supporting the administrative management, budgetary governance, and performance oversight of DBT-autonomous institutions.
Collaboration: Representing the department in inter-ministerial committees, national task forces, and international collaborations.

Selection Process

The selection involves two stages:

Written Examination: A computer-based test (200 Questions / 200 Marks) consisting of:
- Part A: General Aptitude (100 Qs) – General knowledge, math, reasoning, and general sciences.
- Part B: Scientific (100 Qs) – Technical knowledge in Biochemistry, Agriculture, Animal Science, Data Science, and Biotechnology.
Interview: Shortlisted candidates (based on written exam merit) will be called for a personal interview (200 Marks).
