Research Area

The research project focuses on Fluid-Structure Interaction, Guided Wave Propagation, and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) for ship hulls under varying environmental and operational conditions, incorporating experimental vibration analysis and finite element simulations.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Educational Qualification: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Mechanics from IITs, IISc, or other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).
  • Publications: At least 2 research papers published in Science Citation Index (SCI) Journals.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant research experience (including Ph.D. tenure) in fluid-structure interaction, guided wave propagation, and structural health monitoring.
  • Desirable Skills: Hands-on exposure to vibration testing, experimental structural health monitoring, and finite element (FE) simulations.
  • Relaxation: 5% marks relaxation may be granted to SC/ST candidates as per institutional rules.

Job Description & Responsibilities

The selected Research Associate will work closely with Prof. Santosh Kapuria on the theoretical, computational, and experimental aspects of baseline-free structural health monitoring. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting numerical modeling and finite element simulations of guided wave propagation in ship structures.
  • Developing baseline-free algorithms for damage detection under environmental variations.
  • Designing and executing laboratory experimental setups involving vibration and guided wave measurements.
  • Documenting research findings, preparing technical reports, and authoring peer-reviewed journal articles.
