Designation/Position- Postdoctoral Research Fellow
The School of Mathematics and Physics, University of Queensland invites application for postdoctoral fellow position from candidates having PhD in theoretical atomic physics or a related discipline.
About- The discipline of Physics is located in the School of Mathematics and Physics in the Faculty of Science. The discipline is internationally recognised for its research excellence and hosts a number of first class research centres.
The School of Mathematics and Physics leads the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems and is a node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computing and Communication Technology. The atomic, molecular, and optical physics faculty is one of the largest in Australia.
Research/Job Area- Theoretical atomic physics or a related discipline.

Eligibility/Qualification- Applicants should possess or be in the process of completing a PhD in theoretical atomic physics or a related discipline. They need to have a strong background in quantum mechanics and a demonstrated capacity to carry out research in atomic structure theory. High-level analytical and computational skills, a track-record of publications in high-quality journals, and high-level verbal and written communication skills are required.
Job/Position Description- This position is associated with the Australian Research Council grant “Heavy atoms and ions and precision tests of fundamental physics” awarded to Dr. Jacinda Ginges. The project involves the development of atomic many-body methods and computer codes at the forefront of precision theory for heavy atoms. Applications will be made to fundamental and applied problems, including precision searches for new physics beyond the standard model, superheavy elements, and atomic clocks.
This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for 3 years at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,546 – $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,409 – $102,416 p.a.).
