About- The position is for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Structural and Molecular Sciences group, Groton CT.  The overall goals of this position are to carry out project work and training in areas of targeted protein degradation to make unique discoveries enabling high impact publications.  Prior experience with mammalian cell culture and biophysical and biochemical characterization of proteins is required.  Familiarity with the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is a strong plus.  Our Connecticut research campus is located in Groton, CT approximately two hours from both Boston and New York City. Your scientific research will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a dynamic pharmaceutical industry environment, to work with and influence fellow scientists across other disciplines. You will be expected to deliver the results of your novel research internally via various working groups, via external conferences and through publications in high quality scientific journals.

Eligibility/Qualification–

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recent Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or a related field
  • Strong track record of scientific publications
  • Hands-on experience with basic cell biology and biochemistry, including cell culture, cell isolation, immunoblotting, biophysical characterization
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, willingness to learn new skills, and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Produce high impact publications in peer reviewed journals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS)
  • General molecular biology skills (Construct design, PCR etc…)
  • Protein expression and purification
  • Familiar to analyze protein structures

Job/Position Description-  The successful candidate will join the Groton Structural and Molecular Sciences group which has extensive expertise in the gene to structure pipeline, in addition to biophysics and chemical biology.  Our mission is to provide integrated molecular insights into drug targets and target-ligand interactions to impact drug discovery efforts across multiple therapeutic areas.

The selected candidate will, in collaboration with others, perform research to understand protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions and the impact of ligand binding on target ubiquitination and degradation.  Responsibilities will include design of appropriate experiments, collecting and analyzing data, working independently in a laboratory environment in addition to performing other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required.  The applicant training may/will include mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, protein expression and purification, protein-ligand binding studies and in vitro assay development. 

These efforts will be part of a larger team working to advance treatments for multiple diseases, as such you will have the opportunity to learn techniques from experienced colleagues throughout the Groton Structural and Molecular Sciences group and gradually build a broad understanding of other biology and chemistry disciplines involved in drug discovery. 

This position offers an opportunity to help contribute to the understanding of mechanism of action studies of compounds and will place the successful candidate into an environment rich with training opportunities, access to high level scientific equipment and excellent support for research materials. 

You will be expected to present your results at an external meeting and publish your findings in high impact journals.
