PhD Scholarship in Quantum Magnets: The Laboratory for Quantum Magnetism (LQM) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) invites applications for a PhD position focused on the investigation and tuning of phases in frustrated quantum magnets under extreme conditions. This project, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Henrik M. Rønnow (EPFL) and Dr. Ursula B. Hansen (ILL), will combine inelastic neutron scattering, synchrotron X-ray diffraction, and specific heat measurements to explore exotic quantum properties in these materials.

Description
The Laboratory for Quantum Magnetism (LQM) at EPFL is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a project focused on the study of frustrated quantum magnets. These materials, where magnetic interactions compete, exhibit a range of exotic quantum properties. The research will involve:
- Performing inelastic neutron scattering experiments at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL)
- Utilizing synchrotron X-ray diffraction and specific heat measurements at the LQM
- Exploring the phases of frustrated quantum magnets under low temperatures and high pressures
The selected candidate will spend the first two years based at ILL, Grenoble, and the subsequent two years at EPFL, Lausanne. This PhD project offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research within a dynamic and international scientific community.
