About- The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) is a society registered under Act XXI of 1860 and the corresponding State Act viz. the West Bengal State Registration Act 1961, with its headquarters at 2A & 2B, Raja S. C. Mallick Road, Calcutta – 700 032, West Bengal, India. It has a Governing Council with several members elected or nominated and the Registrar as its Non-Member Secretary. The Council has the functions, duties and power as envisaged in the Memorandum and Bye-Laws per the relevant Act’s provisions.

Eligibility/Qualification–
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in Physics/Chemistry (specializing in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics or Materials Science) from a recognized university or institute. Essential qualifications include hands-on experience in gas sensor fabrication and characterization, semiconductor device processing, thin-film deposition, surface functionalization, and integration of 2D materials and MOFs for sensor platforms.
Desirable Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with additional expertise in advanced analytical tools such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Photoluminescence (PL), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and electrical/optical characterization techniques for thin films and sensing interfaces. Extensive experience in nanofabrication processes, sensor integration with microelectronic platforms, and understanding of gas–surface interactions will be highly valued.
Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis and are awaiting the award of the degree may also apply, provided they furnish relevant documents confirming their thesis submission. Such candidates will be eligible to receive a fellowship equivalent to an RA only after receiving their Ph.D. degree.

Number of Positions: One
Duration of Appointment: The initial appointment period will be six months, extendable to one year or more based upon satisfactory performance reviews.

Ph.D. holders must present the original or provisional certificate. Candidates awaiting their degree must provide relevant documentation such as an acknowledgment copy from their respective university or a letter from their supervisor confirming thesis submission, title, university registration number, and date of submission.
