The government of Ireland invites applications for Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2024 from eligible and interested candidates
About- The Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is an established national initiative, funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and managed by the Irish Research Council. A new national research agency, Taighde Éireann/Research Ireland, has been established by the government. The agency will amalgamate the work of the Irish Research Council and Science Foundation Ireland. The full operation of Taighde Éireann will be enabled over the coming period.

Eligibility/Qualification–
- Applicants must be based at an eligible higher education institution (HEI) or research-performing organisation (RPO) in Ireland.
- Applicants must hold a doctoral degree.
- Applicants must, on the call deadline, hold a contract of sufficient duration with their eligible HEI or RPO to carry out the proposed research from the project start date until the project end date.
- Applicants may only make one application to the scheme in a given year.
- While postgraduate scholars are not eligible to apply, their involvement in the proposed projects is encouraged.
- Note there are additional eligibility criteria specific to each strand (see Appendices), and the research project must address the required thematic focus of the respective strand.
Job/Position Description-
This programme aims to support suitably qualified applicants to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at an eligible higher education institution in Ireland for either one or two years. Among its features are:
- individual, prestigious awards for excellent research in the name of the applicant;
- an objective selection process using international, independent expert peer review;
- funding across all disciplines, from archaeology to zoology; and
- awards for bottom-up, non-directed research.
Pioneering proposals addressing new and emerging fields of research or those introducing creative, innovative approaches are welcomed. Proposals of an interdisciplinary nature are also encouraged as it is recognised that advancing fundamental understanding is achieved by integrating information, techniques, tools and perspectives from two or more disciplines.
What we offer
- a salary of €46,305 in the first year of the award and €47,879 in the second year of the award*;
- employer’s PRSI contribution; and
- eligible direct research expenses of €5,000 per annum.
