Job/Position Description-
At the University of Greifswald in the DFG-funded Research Training Group RTG 2010 – „Biological responses to novel and changing environments – RESPONSE“, there is a job vacancy from 01 March 2020, full-time as a Research Assistant/Postdoc: Modeling species persistence to climate change.
The fixed-term contract is for the period of 37 months. A later start of employment is also possible, with a shorter contract period, correspondingly. The position is suitable for part-time. Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.
In this multidisciplinary and international project, we are looking for a committed employee for the following work tasks:
Current population persistence modelsor hybrid SDMs (species distribution models) require data on genetic variance, phenotypic plasticity, and either environmental sensitivity of selection or dispersal capacity and species distribution. These parameters have been or will be quantified within the different individual projects in RESPONSE. Here, advanced hybrid model frameworks such as AdaptR (Ecol Lett 19: 1468) shall be used to evaluate species persistence to climate change across taxa. A close cooperation with the developers of AdaptR (A. Bush and K. Mokany) is possible. This will allow the postdoctoral researcher to closely interact with these leading experts in the field of hybrid models. At least one of them will come to Greifswald for extended stays to support the postdoctoral research. The postdoctoral researcher will also have own funds for travel expenses.
For details about RESPONSE see https://biologie.uni-greifswald.de/forschung/dfg-graduiertenkollegs/research-training-group-2010/
Beyond modelling persistence of the single target species in RESPONSE in cooperation with the respective doctoral researchers, the postdoc will work particularly on the understanding when and where genetic adaptation might aid species persistence. This postdoc shall closely interact with all RESPONSE subprojects and integrate their empirical data in up-to-date models to estimate species persistence. The postdoc will find a stimulating environment for developing his/her own career in science by using high quality empirical data from a broad range of organisms.
How to Apply-
Please only submit copies of your application documents as they cannot be returned. Unfortunately, the application costs (e.g. travel expenses for interviews) will not be reimbursed by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
